The L'Alfàs del Pi City Council has inaugurated the exhibition 'Peace is the Path' at CEA Carabineros in l'Albir, dedicated to sociologist and international mediator Johan Galtung, who had a close relationship with the municipality.

The exhibition, which can be visited until October 29th, focuses on the figure of Johan Galtung from various perspectives, tracing the main milestones of a career spanning over seven decades dedicated to the study of peace, conflict, development, and violence. Galtung, a renowned sociologist, mathematician, researcher, and international conflict mediator, was a key proponent of academic peace studies and mediated in numerous international conflicts.
The exhibition also explores lesser-known aspects of his personality, his research, and his initiatives for peacebuilding, highlighting the special relationship he maintained with L'Alfàs del Pi. Galtung discovered the municipality in the 1960s, and over the years, it became his second home. During his stays, he wrote a significant portion of his books and articles, even referring to l'Alfàs as “the city of peace”.
Among the exhibited contents are references to his early sociological work, his conflict studies, and projects like ‘Canciones Sin Fronteras’ (Songs Without Borders), an initiative that used music as a tool to unite people and foster peace. Much of the material on display was compiled by Richard Barreno, with contributions from Alberto Andrés, a professor and member of the Organizing Committee of the International Center for Conflicts ‘Alfadeltapi’.
The Councilor for Culture, Manuel Casado, accompanied by members of the Government team, attended the inaugural event and encouraged residents and visitors to explore the exhibition. “It is an exhibition worth visiting because it allows us to approach a figure of enormous international relevance, but also to better understand the person who was linked to L'Alfàs del Pi for so many years,” Casado stated.
Casado highlighted the work done to gather the materials and invited everyone to discover the exhibition in the coming weeks, aiming to “recover and keep alive the memory of Johan Galtung and showcase some of the many facets of his career.”
