The Camerata del Festival Mozartmanía opened the 36th edition of the festival in L'Alfàs del Pi with a concert that fused classical music with major hits from The Beatles, ABBA, and Queen. The show ‘De Mozart al Pop Music’, held at the Casa de Cultura, demonstrated the ability of different eras and styles to connect with the audience through music.
The program offered a musical journey from classicism to contemporary culture. The first part included pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ('Adagio in E Major, KV 261'), Amy Beach ('Romance for violin and strings'), Tchaikovsky ('Souvenir d’un lieu cher-Mélodie'), Massenet ('Méditation de Thaïs'), Ennio Morricone ('Cinema Paradiso’), and Astor Piazzolla (‘Oblivion’).
After the intermission, the Camerata performed string arrangements of hits such as ‘Lady Madonna’, ‘I was born to love you’, ‘Chiquitita’, ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Let it be’, ‘Yesterday’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Mamma Mia’, and ‘We are the champions’.
The Councillor for Culture, Manuel Casado, highlighted the positive reception of the inaugural concert, stating that "starting Mozartmanía with a concert like this allows us to assert that classical music is not a closed language, but an artistic expression capable of dialoguing with any era and with very different audiences".
The Camerata del Festival Mozartmanía comprises professional musicians and young talents from prestigious European schools and conservatories, including Joaquín Palomares, Rezart Kapetani, Anna Rubanez, Christian Casanova (violins), Lester Mejías (viola), and Keleti Zsofie and Joshua Lind (cellos).
The festival will continue on Saturday, October 10th, with the Cuarteto Macondo, who will present a repertoire combining baroque virtuosity, waltzes, and film, pop, and rock hits. On Saturday, October 17th, the Orquesta de las Jornadas Hispano Noruegas will perform Vivaldi's ‘The Four Seasons’ and Mozart's ‘Piano Concerto KV 413’.
The 36th edition will conclude on Saturday, October 31st, with Mozart's ‘Requiem KV 626’, performed by the Orquesta Art Creare, a choir of approximately 50 voices, and four vocal soloists, under the musical direction of Josep Gil. The soloists will be Jennibel Hernández (soprano), Joana Thomè (mezzo-soprano), Jorge Franco (tenor), and Javier Agudo (baritone).
All performances will take place at 8:00 PM at the Casa de Cultura in L'Alfàs del Pi. Tickets cost 5 euros and can be purchased at the Casa de Cultura box office or on the day of each performance.
Manuel Casado encouraged citizens to enjoy the festival, emphasizing that "Mozartmanía is already part of the cultural identity of L'Alfàs del Pi". This year's edition features four concerts with repertoires ranging from Mozart and Vivaldi to film, pop, and Mozart's Requiem.
