Families in Paiporta are preparing for the start of a new academic year with maximum possible safety thanks to the Safe School Routes campaign, promoted by the Local Police. The initiative focuses on the safety of travel to educational centers and offers recommendations for students, families, and the community as a whole, aiming to foster habits that contribute to safer journeys to and from school.
The Councilor for Local Police, Susana Moreno, highlighted that this preventive task is essential, especially for the return to classrooms. "Our job is also to prevent risky situations and help generate safe habits. With this campaign, we want to remind everyone of simple guidelines that, applied together, contribute to making school journeys safer," she stated. Similarly, the Councilor for Education, Olga Sandrós, emphasized the importance of starting the year "with maximum safety" and valued the involvement of the entire educational community.
The campaign covers all types of travel: on foot, by bicycle, or by motorized vehicles. For children, key advice includes always using pedestrian crossings, looking both ways before crossing, walking on the sidewalk, and being aware of their surroundings. For bicycle, scooter, or motorcycle travel, the importance of wearing a helmet and reflective elements is recalled.
The role of families is fundamental. The Local Police stresses the importance of using seat belts and child restraint systems for car journeys. It also emphasizes the need to plan routes, choose the safest ones, and leave with enough time to avoid rushing. Furthermore, it calls for reducing distractions, such as mobile phone use or headphones, especially when crossing a street.
The campaign specifically focuses on the areas around educational centers, where caution is urged, signage must be respected, and pedestrians given way, reminding that the maximum speed in school zones is 30 km/h. Responsibility is also called for when parking, avoiding obstructions of pedestrian crossings or traffic flow.
The mayor of Paiporta, Vicent Ciscar, underlined that street safety is a shared responsibility and encouraged all citizens to act with prudence and respect. "Together, we can contribute to making Paiporta a safer and friendlier municipality," he affirmed. With this initiative, the Paiporta City Council reinforces its commitment to Safe School Routes and to educational environments that allow for more tranquil journeys and promote responsible mobility habits.
