The Consorcio de Bomberos de la Diputación de Alicante (Alicante Provincial Council Fire Department Consortium) has launched its first-ever professional exchange program this year, considered a pioneer in Spain. This project involves a firefighter from the Canadian city of Edmonton joining the Torrevieja Fire Station, while a corporal from the Alicante firefighters has moved to Edmonton to join their Fire Extinguishing Service.
Both operatives have already integrated into their respective destinations, where they are carrying out the same functions, interventions, and activities as the rest of the regular staff. Throughout the twelve-month exchange period, participants will also swap residences.
This initiative will allow firefighters to gain firsthand knowledge of the organization, operational protocols, training systems, and resources used in various interventions, thereby fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the two services.
Participants will always work under the supervision of a chief sub-officer and without exercising authority. Upon completion of the experience, they must submit a technical report including proposals for the implementation of operational improvements.

This was stated by the deputy responsible for the area, Luis Rodríguez, who highlighted that this international collaboration is key to strengthening the response capacity and improving the quality of the service provided by the Consortium.
