The third vice-president and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, has announced that the Generalitat is making nearly one million daily seats available to users starting this September, thanks to the reactivation of regular routes and recent improvements to Metrovalencia and TRAM de Alicante.
The regular public transport campaign includes Metrovalencia, Metrobús, TRAM de Alicante, TRAM de Castelló, and interurban buses. Martínez Mus emphasized the Generalitat's commitment to mobility that meets the real needs of citizens, students, and workers, ensuring a service that is "comfortable, sustainable, accessible, and efficient" and strengthens territorial cohesion.
With the start of the academic year, service and customer attention have been particularly reinforced at key access points to universities, institutes, and educational centers, to accommodate thousands of students and workers using public transport.
The minister recalled that this is the second academic year beginning with all lines affected by the dana operational, following the effort to restore infrastructure. Between June 27 and August 31, 2026, over 8 million passengers used the València Sud-Castelló section.
The Generalitat maintains current fare reductions until December 31, 2026.
Martínez Mus contrasted this improvement with the situation of the C-3 commuter line, which still lacks service between Utiel and Buñol nearly two years after the dana, with no recovery date. He also pointed out the interruption of the C-2 line between Xàtiva and Moixent until 2027, and works affecting the C-5 between Caudiel and Sagunto, as well as the suspension of the Medium Distance service between Sagunto and Teruel.
The minister lamented that the new trains announced by the Ministry are actually "refurbished trains" decades old, and that new-generation trains have been preferentially allocated to other regions, despite the Valencian Community's need for a modern railway service.
Metrovalencia, the main exponent of the Generalitat's commitment, offers 850,000 daily seats, with over 75,000 during peak hours, serving around 300,000 travelers on working and academic days. Customer service personnel have been increased at key points like Benimaclet, Àngel Guimerà, Empalme, Universitat Politècnica, Tarongers-Ernest Lluch, and Marítim.
For its part, TRAM de Alicante offers 125,000 daily seats, moving over 50,000 travelers daily. Stations and stops linked to university and educational areas such as Universitat, Bulevar del Pla, Virgen del Remedio, or Instituto are being reinforced.
The Generalitat maintains a program for the maintenance and modernization of infrastructure and fleet. This year, a new operational command center is being inaugurated after the reconstruction of València Sud post-dana. Over 10,000 seats are being renovated on trains and trams, and long-cycle maintenance continues on older series to improve reliability.
Work is also being carried out on air conditioning equipment, and the fleet's video surveillance systems have been renewed in Valencia, with ongoing work in Alicante. New vehicles will soon be incorporated into both Metrovalencia and TRAM de Alicante fleets.
Regarding fare policy, the Generalitat maintains current reductions until December 31, 2026: free travel for children under 14, 50% discount for young people, and reductions of at least 40% on season tickets and multi-trip passes. Free passes for residents in municipalities affected by the dana also continue.
