The exhibition, organized by the Department of Culture in collaboration with Richard Barreno, aims to showcase the trajectory and thought of Galtung, a prominent advocate for peace studies, and to highlight his close relationship with the municipality, which he considered his second home.
Johan Galtung (1930-2024) founded the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo and the Journal of Peace Research. Over seven decades, he researched conflicts, peace, and violence, and served as a mediator in over 150 conflicts. He developed concepts such as structural, cultural, and behavioral violence.
The exhibition also features his initiative ‘Songs Without Borders’, a project using music as a universal language to unite people and promote peace, as well as his early sociological work, including his study Social Functions of a Prison (1958).
Galtung's connection with L'Alfàs del Pi, where he wrote much of his work, is a central theme. The municipality honored him in 2024 by naming the Johan Galtung Peace Park.
The Councilor for Culture, Manuel Casado, invites the public to the inauguration and to explore this exhibition, open until the end of October, as a tribute to an internationally significant figure deeply connected to L'Alfàs.
