On the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day, the Town Hall of L'Alfàs del Pi has displayed a large pink ribbon on its facade, supporting the campaign by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and all affected individuals.

The initiative, themed ‘Nos lo tomamos a pecho’ (We take it to heart) this year, focuses on the experience of living with breast cancer beyond diagnosis and treatment. The ribbon-placing ceremony, organized in collaboration with the association Anémona Marina Baixa, is part of commemorative activities that also include bone density tests conducted this week at the Hogar del Pensionista (Pensioner's Home).
The symbolic event was attended by the Councilor for Health, Marisa Cortés; Councilor for European Funds, Loli Albero; Councilor for Commerce, Patrick de Meirsman; Councilor for Technical Services, Oscar Pérez; spokesperson Toni Such; and a broad representation from Anémona, led by its president, María Botella, and secretary, Encarnación Zafra.
This gesture aims to renew the population's commitment to women who have experienced or are experiencing the disease, as well as to the associations that offer support and fight for research. The pink ribbon serves as a reminder of the unanimous commitment against breast cancer, a disease affecting thousands of women annually where early diagnosis remains key to survival.
Anémona Marina Baixa is a self-help group providing psychological support and advice to patients and their families. In L'Alfàs del Pi, its services are offered at the Centro + Social (Social+ Center), as highlighted once again by the Councilor for Health, Marisa Cortés, emphasizing the valuable social role Anémona plays not only in emotional support but also in prevention and social awareness.
The campaign's slogan, ‘Nos lo tomamos a pecho’, was chosen to reflect the sentiment of many affected individuals who feel misunderstood by their environment, minimized by doctors, or that media campaigns oversimplify the reality of living with and surviving the illness.
As part of the commemorative events, free bone density tests have been conducted this week in the Multipurpose Room of the Hogar del Pensionista. Bone densitometry is a diagnostic test that measures bone mineral density, particularly important for women who have undergone treatments like chemotherapy, which can lead to bone mass loss.
