Mayor Marcos Zaragoza met with the regional secretary of Infrastructure and Transport, Javier Sendra, and the director general of Coasts and Ports, Marc García, to finalize the future project for Villajoyosa's port front. The objective is to advance the port-city integration plan, an initiative aimed at renewing the municipality's maritime facade and utilizing various port infrastructures.
During a visit to the old Varadero (shipyard), the Mayor and Generalitat representatives inspected the facilities' condition firsthand. The mayor emphasized the importance of collaboration between both administrations to better leverage this space, noting that the areas targeted for improvement have been in a lamentable state for a long time. "This port area must be a space for the people," stated Zaragoza, expressing satisfaction with laying the groundwork for the project.
Priority actions include addressing the degradation of the Varadero, where boats have been abandoned for over three decades, as well as reorganizing fishing equipment sheds, renewing lighting, and improving garden areas. These interventions aim to transform this strategic zone into a space for all citizens.
Director General of Ports, Marc García, highlighted that Villajoyosa, as a tourist powerhouse, deserves better than a degraded port. He emphasized the Generalitat's commitment to a port model more integrated with municipalities, balancing port activity with improvements to the maritime facade and the recovery of deteriorated spaces.
Mayor Zaragoza stressed the need for investment to foster development and attract business to the port area, one of the most significant due to its fishing activity. The City Council is already working on the execution project for the port's access road.
Furthermore, García mentioned the Generalitat's investments in energy efficiency across its regional ports, including the installation of photovoltaic plants. At the Villajoyosa port, this initiative involved an investment of 209,178 euros.
