The Accessibility Commission of Villajoyosa held its third meeting of 2026 this Thursday, analyzing the status of current and future proposals regarding accessibility and universal design in the municipality.
The Councilor for Social Services and Equality, Maite Sánchez, who chairs this commission, highlighted that "the Accessibility Commission continues to work on developing and proposing actions that contribute to making a city easier, friendlier, more comfortable, and safer for everyone." The councilor indicated that they meet "periodically" to monitor the Universal Accessibility and Quality of Services Plan, which came into effect in 2025.
The Commission comprises various local entities from the sector and councilors from relevant areas such as Urban Planning, Sports, Citizen Security, Urban Scene, or Tourism. The meeting held at the Llar del Pensionista social center analyzed the execution of several ongoing and future actions.
Among the analyzed proposals are improvements to the accessibility of Social Services facilities, the future installation of the Navilens system for visually impaired individuals, the "Transita" application for mobility and safety, adaptation of municipal websites, standardization of institutional signage, incorporation of Easy Reading in municipal publications, training for municipal staff, and the creation of the first fully inclusive children's park.
Maite Sánchez pointed out that the Commission is "a clear example of commitment" from the local government to achieve a more inclusive city, where all citizens can enjoy the facilities, urban fabric, and services.
The councilor believes that "accessibility and inclusion are commitments of the municipal government" and that "all necessary efforts and resources, along with citizen participation, will be dedicated" to define priorities and implement actions that improve the quality of life for all residents of Villajoyosa.
The Accessibility Commission is part of the Municipal Council for Inclusion and Social Rights, a transversal body created a year ago with six commissions, including Equality and Diversity, Inclusion, Functional Diversity and Mental Health, Children and Adolescence, Seniors, and Accessibility.
