The political groups of the Dénia City Council met yesterday for the ordinary plenary session of July, a meeting that took place with a renewed atmosphere, not only due to the new air conditioning system that improved the temperature of the plenary hall but also due to a less heated debate than on previous occasions.
The PP spokesperson, Pepa Font, thanked the mayor, Rafa Carrió, for recovering the air conditioning system during the recent heatwave, describing the debate in previous sessions as "absolutely unbearable."
One of the points of disagreement concerned municipal urban planning. The local government (PSPV-Compromís) approved requesting the Generalitat Valenciana to annul three urban development agreements unilaterally signed with developers, which granted greater buildability than provided for in the General Plan.
Regarding the beaches, a motion was approved demanding immediate repair of the foot showers from Turisme Comunitat Valenciana. Municipal technicians have confirmed that the Marines and les Deveses stations are out of service, and les Bovetes is only partially functional. Punta del Raset and els Molins are operating thanks to their connection to the municipal water network, while l’Almadrava is the only one using the original treated seawater system. The proposal also calls for the annual renewal of adapted bathing facilities and the possible termination of the contract with the awarded company if non-compliance persists, or the transfer of management to the municipalities with corresponding funding.
Mario Vidal (Gent de Dénia) presented a request regarding the maintenance of the castle, proposing the removal of more pine trees that affect the historical architecture. He positively valued the work done but insisted on the need to continue these efforts to prevent structural deterioration. He also proposed periodic monitoring of the castle's walls and towers to detect incidents early.
Finally, the new Strategic Tourism Plan and the new Ordinance on prostitution and human trafficking for sexual exploitation were approved.
