Over 650 Million Euros Allocated for Rebuilding Water Infrastructure Damaged by Storm

The Spanish Government is funding the repair of sewage systems, water networks, and riverbeds in the province of Valencia.

The Spanish Government has allocated over 650 million euros for the reconstruction of water infrastructure in the province of Valencia, damaged by the recent storm.

The central government has earmarked over 437 million euros for the comprehensive reconstruction of sewage and potable water networks, which suffered critical damage during the storm. The Government Commissioner for Reconstruction, Zulima Pérez, explained that projects worth 123 million euros have already been awarded for interventions in 28 affected municipalities. These actions are complemented by subsidies from the Ministry of Territorial Policy for municipal infrastructure.
Additionally, 220 million euros have been invested in the repair and cleaning of riverbeds. The Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHX) has completed emergency works, restoring and reinforcing infrastructure along more than 1,100 kilometers of riverbanks across 61 municipalities. Pérez highlighted the tender for the La Saleta ravine project (136 million euros) and five projects for the Júcar riverbank (44 million).
To reduce flood risk, the Ministry for Ecological Transition has awarded ten projects worth 3.8 million euros in L'Horta Sud and other areas, including actions on the Poyo and Pozalet-Saleta ravines, the Magro River, and the surroundings of Chiva and Utiel. Furthermore, 60 million euros have been allocated as direct aid to municipalities to enhance their adaptation to flood risk.
Zulima Pérez emphasized the Spanish Government's commitment to the Valencian Community for the recovery of climate-resilient infrastructure, asserting that the central Executive is combating this issue with all its resources to improve the province's water infrastructure.
