Work to safeguard Paterna's Calle Mayor is underway, less than two weeks before the Cordà, the fire event that concludes the patron saint festivities. This year, the City Council has introduced an innovative project replacing the usual metal cages with wooden boards on some affected properties.
For a month, workers have been laboring intensely to cover the facades, thus ensuring safety during one of the most powerful pyrotechnic events in the festive calendar. These new wooden protections will also cover balconies and harder-to-reach areas, for which lifting platforms have been used.
Paterna's Cordà will cover a 120-meter stretch of Calle Mayor, where approximately 1,000 kilograms of gunpowder will be ignited in about twenty minutes, making it one of the most intense acts of the celebration.
