The Villena City Council has commenced the removal of safety fencing in the La Morenica neighborhood. This protective measure had been installed to safeguard pedestrians and vehicles from potential falling debris from balconies that had structural issues. The completion of the rehabilitation works, carried out by the property owners, has now allowed this area to be cleared of the fencing, facilitating traffic flow.
However, the fencing remains in place at one of the properties on Martín de Porres street, as the necessary repair and reinforcement work on its balconies has not yet been completed.
Concurrently, the certificate of completion for the works, received early yesterday afternoon, clears the way for the Villena City Council to proceed with the neighborhood's redevelopment project, which has been pending since 2023. The intervention was not undertaken at the initially planned date due to concerns that heavy machinery and underground works might affect the homes.
The City Council has currently updated the construction project and is preparing the tender documents for its bidding process, with a starting price of four million euros.
The city's mayor, Fulgencio Cerdán, believes that the comprehensive improvement works for this neighborhood could commence by the end of this year or within the first weeks of 2027.
