The initiative seeks to reinforce security in farmhouses, forest areas, and tourist attractions. "The priority is the safety of people living in scattered areas. In many inhabited farmhouses, coverage is non-existent, which can cause problems in emergency situations," explained the mayor, Jordi Alcon.
The proposal stems from meetings held this summer with residents, where the needs of those living in farmhouses or working in agricultural holdings were gathered, as well as deficiencies in areas of tourist and cultural interest such as Sant Joan de Penyagolosa.
“"In places like Sant Joan, we have no mobile coverage and cannot call 112 in case of emergency. Having communications can save lives and prevent serious problems in the mountains, farmhouses, and farms."
To advance this improvement, the council has formally requested technical assistance and collaboration from the Provincial Council of Castelló to conduct a study identifying areas with non-existent or insufficient coverage and analyzing communication needs in emergency situations.
The study will also assess possible solutions, their technical and economic feasibility, communication alternatives, and public alert systems, as well as potential funding and inter-administrative collaboration. Furthermore, it aims to integrate the proposed measures within the municipal fire prevention and civil protection plans.
The municipality's size, mountainous terrain, and the dispersion of farmhouses, homes, and agricultural holdings necessitate addressing this issue to ensure adequate basic services for everyone living or working in Vistabella del Maestrat.
