The Free After-School Activities program by the Elda City Council, launched in the 2021-22 academic year, has generated over 400 jobs for socio-educational professionals and offered more than 20,000 places for the city's children. The initiative, aimed at family conciliation and educational support, has seen its job positions stabilize from the 2025-26 academic year with improved hourly conditions.
Since its implementation, the program has provided employment opportunities to over 400 professionals. The number of hires over the last five academic years has been: 72 people in 2022-23, 60 in 2023-24, 63 in 2024-25, 45 in 2025-26, and 46 in 2026-27 (start of term). The Councilor for Education, María Gisbert, stated that initial figures were higher due to staff turnover, but since 2025-26, contracting has been optimized by increasing hours per position, making it more attractive and stable.
Beyond job creation, the program offers significant social benefits. This academic year, it has a 16.2% larger budget and has provided 600 additional places. Currently, the after-school activities reach 85% of Infant and Primary students, with over 3,000 enrollments in the last three years. With more than 16,000 places offered over five years, the total is expected to exceed 20,000 by the end of this academic year.
The initiative ensures a quality recreational and educational space outside of school hours, promoting equal opportunities and facilitating work-life balance for parents. Activities include English, Homework support, Theater, Music and Dance, and Visual Arts, all employing participatory and creative methods.
