The August night and early morning were particularly hot in the Valencian Community, with minimum temperatures exceeding 24 degrees in wide coastal areas. The island of Tabarca, off the coast of Alicante, recorded the highest minimum at 28.4 degrees, according to data from the Valencian Association of Meteorology (Avamet). Following closely, Santa Pola registered 27.8 degrees.
These conditions made nighttime rest difficult in many homes, especially in dwellings without air conditioning or located on the front line of the coast. Data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) confirm the persistence of heat. At El Tancat de Mília, in the natural park of l’Albufera de València, the minimum temperature was 27.4 degrees, while in Sagunto it did not drop below 26.5 degrees.
Other coastal towns also experienced high minimums: Miramar and València recorded 26.2 degrees; Pego, 25.9 degrees; and Alicante-Elche airport, 25.7 degrees. Additionally, Oliva registered 25.5 degrees, Castellón de la Plana 25.2 degrees, and Torreblanca 25.1 degrees. Benidorm had a minimum of 24.8 degrees, Xàtiva 24.6 degrees, and the city of Alicante 24.2 degrees.
Aemet notes that the provincial capitals have accumulated a high number of tropical nights this summer, defined as those where the minimum temperature does not drop below 25 degrees. To date, València has recorded 20 tropical nights (the third highest value), Castellón de la Plana 16 (a historic maximum), and Alicante 12 (the second highest value).
These episodes of nighttime heat maintain high thermal sensation and reduce buildings' ability to cool down, increasing electricity consumption due to the continuous use of air conditioning and fans.
Aemet maintains a yellow alert for high temperatures in the interior of the province of València and parts of Alicante, with maximums expected up to 38 degrees in the southern interior of Valencia. There is also a yellow alert for coastal phenomena on the coast of València and the northern coast of Alicante, associated with possible storms with wind gusts that could exceed 80 km/h.
