The Elda City Council today presented the completion of the comprehensive conditioning and musealization project for the air-raid shelter located in Plaza de Arriba. The city's mayor, Rubén Alfaro, accompanied by the Councilor for Public Space and Investments, José Antonio Amat, conducted a technical and interpretive tour of the galleries to present the details of the executed works.
The recovery of this heritage asset has involved both architectural conservation and museographic adaptation. Specialized cleaning, sanitation of masonry walls and vaults, humidity treatment, structural consolidation, and safety interventions at the accesses have been carried out. Accesses and pavement have also been adapted to ensure visitor mobility and safety.
Informational panels, technical diagrams, historical images, and supporting graphic material have been installed to explain the historical context, architectural features, and daily life during the period of conflict. The musealization includes interactive support and sound resources to offer an immersive educational experience.

The mayor highlighted that the musealization of this shelter not only consolidates the preservation of an underground structure of undoubted urban and social value but also provides residents, students, and visitors with an interpretation center that dignifies the city's memory and promotes the values of peace and coexistence.
Alfaro also emphasized the work of the Council for Public Space and Investments and the pedagogical aspect of the project, noting the technicians' efforts to structure an educational and accessible tour.
Finally, the mayor framed the work within the comprehensive plan for the rehabilitation of the urban center, stating that this action represents a fundamental boost for the revitalization of Elda's historic center, attracting visitors and restoring splendor to the heart of the municipality.
