The Plenary Hall of the Elda City Council hosted an emergency meeting today of the Municipal Operational Coordination Center (CECOPAL), chaired by the mayor, Rubén Alfaro. The meeting aimed to coordinate the prevention and response plan following the orange alert warning for high temperatures issued by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Representatives from the Provincial Fire Consortium, the National Police Corps, the Local Police, and the Red Cross, along with municipal technicians, participated in the session. Meteorological forecasts were analyzed, and priority operational resources were determined.
Among the adopted measures are enhanced monitoring of elderly and vulnerable individuals, activation of hydration and shading protocols for municipal activities, and increased surveillance in natural areas to mitigate forest fire risk. An attention point with water distribution has been set up at the Red Cross headquarters, and Local Police and Civil Protection vehicles will carry water to supply citizens at risk.
Mayor Rubén Alfaro emphasized the importance of anticipation and citizen cooperation. "The coordination between the City Council and security and emergency forces is total. We are activating this protocol to ensure the protection of our residents, especially the most sensitive groups," he stated. The public is urged to exercise extreme caution.
The City Council reminds residents of guidelines such as avoiding direct sun exposure between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM, maintaining constant hydration, staying in cool places, and exercising extreme caution in forest areas where any use of fire is prohibited. Regarding the red alert for forest fire risk, prohibitions are in effect, including restricting pedestrian access on trails, suspending work in forest areas, and a general ban on lighting any type of fire. The Elda Fire Station has an itinerant truck for immediate intervention.
