Project partners, methodology developers, local and regional policymakers, school management teams, and representatives from European Schoolnet will convene at the Salón de Grados of the Arenals building on the Elche campus of the UMH. The initiative addresses the changes of the digital age and the declining youth interest in scientific subjects.
The inauguration, tomorrow at 09:30 AM, will feature the UMH Vice-Rector for Research, Ángel Carbonell; UMH professor and project coordinator, Mari Carmen Perea; the Mayor of Aveiro (Portugal), Luís Souto de Miranda; Àgueda Gras-Velázquez from the European Schoolnet; and Tunç Erdal Akdur from the Turkish Ministry of National Education.
During the event, a Forum on STEAM Policies and Sustainability will be combined with round tables of international experts, debates on curricular future, and networking lunches. A STEAM Fair will also be open to the public, where students, teachers, and families can participate in practical workshops, such as simulating seismographs, preventing DANA events, creating biodegradable plastics, or analyzing food, as well as exploring the city with augmented reality via the EduCITY app. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony.
The OpenUS4ALL project, funded by Erasmus+ and coordinated by the UMH with partners from Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Turkey, integrates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Open Schooling approaches. The model is implemented through a methodological guide and a digital platform for educators, promoting 21st-century skills.
Through pilot projects on nutrition, smart cities, marine preservation, and disaster management, students become active researchers, generating solutions for their environment.
