The Valencian Government has granted the Santa Pola City Council a subsidy of 99,565.27 euros for the rehabilitation of the Castillo Fortaleza clock tower. This aid comes from the Restaura Plan, managed by the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage.
The resolution published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities, and Employment details the allocation of these funds, which are part of a call for proposals totaling over 3.9 million euros for the recovery of dry stone constructions and the drafting of management plans for cultural heritage sites in the Valencian Community.
The intervention on the clock tower is necessary due to structural problems detected last January. The mayor, Loreto Serrano, thanked the Generalitat for valuing the municipal request, emphasizing that the subsidy will help undertake the restoration works of this symbol for the people of Santa Pola, ensuring safety and improving the fortress.
Serrano congratulated the City Council's Heritage and Culture team, as well as the Sea Museum, for their management in securing this important aid. She highlighted the municipal commitment to enhancing historical heritage, considering the 16th-century Castillo Fortaleza an important asset of cultural interest.
