Several acts of vandalism have forced the municipal brigade to intervene immediately to replace electrical wiring stolen from different points in the municipality, severely affecting the public lighting service.
The Councilor for Infrastructure, Víctor Valverde, lamented the recurrence of these events, pointing to one of the latest incidents on the CV-930, near the Camino Viejo de Callosa and El Escorratel. "We recently suffered a theft in this same area, the wiring was replaced, and now we find that another section has been stolen again," stated Valverde, emphasizing the cost and effort required by the council to restore essential installations.
The thefts are not concentrated in one spot. In recent weeks, similar thefts have been detected in urban areas such as Ramón y Cajal street, San Juan street, and various areas near the Segura River. One of the most recent incidents occurred last night in the section between the Puente Nuevo and the Los Arcos footbridge, where the brigade has been working all morning to restore power.
Service has now been restored in several locations, while work continues in areas where technical complexity requires a larger intervention. The municipal forecast is for all affected lighting to be restored as soon as possible. "We are acting so that residents suffer the consequences for the shortest possible time," said Valverde.
These incidents have been reported to the Local Police. Valverde expressed concern about the repetition of these actions, which not only damage municipal property but also leave streets and public spaces in darkness, forcing the diversion of resources that could be used for other municipal needs.
The councilor wished to acknowledge the work of the Public Lighting brigade. "I want to greatly thank the workers for their response every time one of these thefts occurs. In addition to their regular, already very important work, they have to add these extraordinary actions to try and restore the service as quickly as possible," he highlighted.
The priority of the Department of Infrastructure is to complete pending replacements and normalize the lighting network. "Every theft means starting over: locating the damage, checking the extent of the theft, replacing the wiring, and getting the installation back online. These are public resources and work hours that we have to dedicate again and again to repair damage that should not occur," concluded Valverde.
