The Cemetery Department, led by councilwoman Helena Gandia, has planned the illumination of emblematic spaces such as the Pont de Santa Maria and industrial chimneys. Additionally, special ornamentation will be installed at the Municipal Cemetery to commemorate the date and promote social awareness regarding this type of grief.
These initiatives, ongoing since 2023, aim to support individuals and families who have experienced or are experiencing gestational, perinatal, or neonatal losses. According to Gandia, “perinatal grief is very hard and has traditionally been invisible. That is why it is so important and necessary to talk about it and make it visible, and to offer support to those who suffer from it, including in Ontinyent.” The councilwoman highlighted the gratitude received for giving a voice to this grief, an objective that continues to be accompaniment, mutual support, and public awareness.
The actions include illuminating the Pont de Santa Maria and the industrial chimneys with the colors sky blue and pink, which identify this grief. This initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Lighting and Mayor's Office departments, will be maintained on October 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th. Concurrently, special floral ornamentation has been placed in the central part of the Third Courtyard of the Municipal Cemetery, accompanied by a panel featuring the poem ‘Cançó de bressol’ by Vicent Andrés Estellés.
