The Generalitat Valenciana and Ontinyent City Council are progressing with the southern ring road improvement project, which includes a new roundabout access to Daniel Gil Avenue and the duplication of a section of the CV-81, aiming to enhance traffic flow and road safety.

The project for the construction of a new roundabout accessing Daniel Gil Avenue via the CV-81 road in Ontinyent, drafted by the Generalitat, will be completed by 2027. This action is part of the southern ring road improvement plan, developed in collaboration with the Ontinyent council. The overall intervention also includes the duplication of a section of this road to increase its capacity and enhance traffic safety.
The awarding of the works is scheduled for this month. Following a meeting between the Minister of Infrastructure, Vicente Martínez Mus, and the Mayor of Ontinyent, Jorge Rodríguez, it was confirmed that the first phase will focus on the new roundabout and the adaptation of the link ramps at the city's entrance via the Mesta area. The drafting of this part of the project is estimated to take nine months and will facilitate direct traffic flow from the CV-81 to Daniel Gil Avenue.
The second project addresses the duplication of a 3.7-kilometer section of the variant, between the roundabouts of the fire station and the sports center. This expansion will increase the road from one lane per direction to two lanes in each direction, significantly boosting the road's capacity. The drafting of this second project is expected to take 18 months.
The CV-81 registers an average of 22,185 vehicles daily and is crucial for alleviating Ontinyent's internal traffic congestion. The planned improvements aim to encourage a greater volume of traffic to use the southern ring road, reducing passage through the urban center and improving coexistence between vehicles and pedestrians. Furthermore, these actions anticipate the increased traffic expected with the future operational launch of the Ontinyent Hospital.
Minister Vicente Martínez Mus highlighted the Generalitat's commitment to Ontinyent and the Vall d'Albaida, emphasizing that the works will enhance mobility and safety on a high-traffic route. Meanwhile, Mayor Jorge Rodríguez stressed the priority of eliminating the 'black spot' at the Mesta roundabout access and expressed gratitude for the minister's willingness to address citizen demands, making projects discussed for years a reality.
Collaboration between administrations will also extend to other roads to improve hydraulic capacity, such as in the area near the roundabout accessing the Sant Vicent bridge from the old Valencia road (CV-650).
Concurrently, the Generalitat is promoting the expansion of the CV-60, a strategic infrastructure to connect the Vall d'Albaida region with the coast. The first phase, initiated this summer with an investment of one million euros, includes a cycling connection and the improvement of an agricultural road. The bulk of the works, which plan to duplicate 23.6 km out of a total of 44.1 km, will commence in 2027, with a total investment of 347 million euros.
