The Miramar City Council has concluded the modernization of water meters throughout the municipality, including the urban center and the beach area. 2,180 new smart meters with remote reading technology have been installed, representing an investment of 246,340 euros. This initiative promotes more efficient, digital, and sustainable management of the drinking water service.
The meter renovation in Miramar's beach area is part of the digitalization project for the integral water cycle. With this intervention, the City Council completes a phased renovation process, ensuring that 100% of the municipality's water meters are now digital and smart.
The new devices enable obtaining consumption data without physical readings, facilitating more precise water management. Furthermore, citizens gain greater control over their water usage through the free Aguas Móvil Clientes app, which allows real-time consumption checks, access to bills, alerts for leaks or high usage, and consumption history review.
This technology had already been gradually implemented in various areas of the municipality. In 2021, the City Council began installing smart meters, and during 2023 and 2024, the phases for beach residences were completed.
The meter renovation is part of the «Miramar hacia el Ciclo Integral del Agua 4.0» project, with a total investment of 778,838.98 euros, developed in collaboration with Global Omnium. The project receives 560,308.35 euros from the PERTE for water cycle digitalization (NextGenerationEU funds), with the remainder covered by municipal funds.
The set of actions promotes a more efficient and sustainable water management model, based on digitalization and early detection of incidents. Miramar is thus advancing in the modernization of its public services and adapting to the challenges of climate change and the need for responsible water resource use.
