The film, premiering in the Punto de Encuentro section of the 71st Seminci, stems from a personal family experience and delves into the reality of a juvenile justice center through Luna, a teenager who finds a form of resistance in urban music and her peers.
Claudia Estrada, the film's director, emphasized the importance of telling this story to break down prejudices about juvenile justice and approach the reality of the young women in these spaces, discussing their bonds, solidarity, and the harshness of judicial processes at such young ages. The project solidified after four years of research, during which the director worked with educators, lawyers, and young people who had been through the system.
The story took on an even more personal dimension when Valeria, the filmmaker's sister and the inspiration for the script, took on the leading role after leaving the center. The main cast was completed with young talents selected through castings on social media, concerts, and juvenile centers, notably artist Huda as Yanira.
Influenced by her background in documentary filmmaking, Estrada opted for realism in the locations, filming in a former psychiatric hospital inactive since 2015. The film, developed by producer Oceanika, concluded filming in late January 2025.
Participation in the Seminci, held from October 23rd to 31st, represents an opportunity to bring visibility to Salen las lobas. After the festival, the film will be released in cinemas across Spain on December 11th, distributed by Silencio Cinema.
In parallel, Estrada is already working on two new feature fiction films, one of which has received scriptwriting support from the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC).
Claudia Estrada's passion for storytelling and interest in cinema grew during her time as a student at the UPV's Gandia campus, where she fondly recalls the enthusiasm of early projects and cineforum nights.
