The Governing Council of the Municipal Patronato de Fiestas, chaired by the Councillor for Fiestas, Noelia Selma, has greenlit the budget for the 2027 fiscal year. The approved figure, 2,695,000 euros, represents the highest in recent years and upholds the municipal commitment, led by Mayor Begoña Carrasco, to ensure the best possible festivities in Castellón.
One of the main novelties in the budget is the increase in the contribution allocated to the 'gaiatas', which will reach 15,000 euros. This amount marks the highest historical grant from the Patronato to the 'gaiata' commissions, reinforcing their role in promoting the monument and symbol of the Fiestas de la Magdalena.
Councillor Selma highlighted the municipal government's support for those who work altruistically for the foundational festivities, emphasizing the importance of the 'gaiatas' as a central element. She recalled the recent declaration of the 'Desfilada de Gaiates' (Gaiata Parade) as an Asset of Cultural Interest, a recognition of the festive symbol and the people involved in the 'world of festivities'.
The 2027 budget also includes an increase for other collectives. Subsidies for 'Festes de Carrer' (Street Festivities) will rise to 25,000 euros, and aid for the festivities in the neighborhoods of Castellón will reach 37,000 euros. Furthermore, amounts for agreements with associations such as Colla del Rei Barbut or Germandat dels Cavallers de la Conquesta will be increased.
Noelia Selma emphasized the evolution of the budget since 2023, coinciding with the current Government team. She noted that, after addressing pending payments, the current budget presents a more realistic plan and has grown by approximately half a million euros, allowing for the reinforcement and increased visibility of festive events.
The councillor argued that the new budget aims to promote a more vibrant and attractive city, with greater investment in the festivities and the people who make them possible, contributing to the culture, identity, economic dynamism, and tourism des-seasonalization of Castellón.
