Through this distinction, the council aims to highlight the importance of traditional commerce and businesses with a long-standing connection to Algemesí, which have played a key role in the vitality of the streets and the consolidation of the local commercial fabric.
Businesses themselves or any individual aware of their trajectory can submit nominations. The period for receiving proposals will be open until Friday, October 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Applications must be submitted exclusively through the municipal electronic headquarters, accessible at sede.algemesi.es.
This call follows the success of the first edition, held last year, where the award was presented to Bicicletes Germán Puchades, a century-old business. The jury particularly noted its long history in the municipality, as well as its adaptability and resilience, especially in the face of challenging situations like the flood in October 2024.
“"Local commerce is part of the daily history of Algemesí. Behind each establishment are families, years of work, trust with customers, and a constant contribution to the life of our neighborhoods and streets. With this award, we want to recognize those trajectories that, often discreetly, have helped build the city we have today."
Mayor José Javier Sanchis emphasized the importance of continuing these recognitions, highlighting the economic and social value of proximity commerce. Sanchis pointed out that valuing these businesses means acknowledging their contribution to job creation and the maintenance of commercial activity, providing the city with spaces to thank and showcase this constant work.
