After 15 years of procedures, Vila-real has approved the solution to provide access and facilitate the development of interior plots in an area that includes the former Fritta warehouse site. This action comes at a time of growing investor interest for industrial and service activities, coinciding with the start of works for the new Carinyena shopping center nearby.
The municipal corporation approved in an extraordinary and urgent plenary session the detailed plan to open a new road from Avenida Bélgica. The proposal received the support of all political groups represented in the council. The new street, 12 meters wide and about 50 meters long, will run alongside the Séquia Major and connect with the interior plots whose development was conditioned by the lack of adequate access.
The opening of this road will allow progress in urbanization and facilitate the establishment of industries or tertiary sector companies, with the City Council considering this area strategic due to its location and the generated business interest. The road will also border the land ceded by Porcelanosa for a future vocational training institute specializing in civil engineering and construction, whose future is now uncertain if the educational project does not advance.
The mayor, José Benlloch, questioned the lack of progress from the Generalitat on the institute's project and noted that he has not yet received a response to his request for a meeting with the president, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, to discuss key projects for the municipality. Faced with this situation, the City Council will study alternatives for the plot.
The urban development unblocking comes after a modification of the General Urban Planning Plan promoted by the PP at the time, which reclassified about 10,000 m² as residential land for towers up to 20 stories high, was annulled by the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) in 2013, with the ruling describing the operation as a 'bleeding windfall'.
The plenary session also gave the green light to adapt the municipal urban plan to the needs of the planned actions at the Estadio de la Cerámica, especially to improve safety conditions, with no objections registered during the public exhibition period.
