This collaboration is part of the emergency protocol activated by the Permanent Committee for Humanitarian Action of the Valencian Community. The main objective is to coordinate the resources of local administrations to offer a quick and effective response to the emergency situation in the South American country.
The contribution from Vila-real, amounting to 5,000 euros, has been added to the contributions of other municipalities, reaching a total budget of over 100,000 euros. These funds will be allocated to projects managed by UNHCR and UNICEF to provide basic survival materials and restore water and sanitation services in the most affected areas.
The council has highlighted that this action responds to the city's commitment to international cooperation. According to municipal sources, solidarity is a fundamental pillar of local management, especially after the experience recently lived in the Valencian territory with the DANA.
