The Vila-real City Council plans to open the Puchol farmhouse and its extensive garden to the public next October. This opening will take place after an exhaustive cataloging of plant species and green area conditioning tasks for public enjoyment.
Mayor José Benlloch has indicated that work is underway to shape what will be the 'Central Park' of l'Hort de Puchol, a space that will add between 7,000 and 8,000 square meters of green space near the basilica of Sant Pasqual.
A specific modification to the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) will allow for the creation of a large public garden of 6,781 m², increasing the current green area by 76% and preventing the construction of residential buildings of up to six stories in the farmhouse's surroundings.
The urban planning change, initially approved by the municipal plenary in June, eliminates the 2,303 m² currently designated for multi-family housing, which will now become a green zone. The project aims to restore the original configuration of the estate, including the manor house and its historic garden.
The farmhouse building, which is patrimonially cataloged, will be designated for socio-cultural community facilities, with 300 m² reserved for this use. Additionally, a road section that crossed the estate will be removed, reducing the area for roads and integrating it into the future garden.
The redevelopment also includes the widening of some surrounding streets, such as Mares de la Plaça de Maig, Polo de Bernabé, and Mallorca, to create 68 new parking spaces, aiming to balance the new green space with improved mobility and parking in the neighborhood.
The complete execution of the project will require the acquisition of two private plots, which will be expropriated to ensure their incorporation into the large public garden and preserve the estate's historic landscape.
