Onda unveiled this Monday the renovated Plaza España, a comprehensive transformation costing nearly three million euros that enhances the image of one of the city's main public spaces.

Onda's Plaza España unveiled its renovated image this Monday after a comprehensive transformation that involved an investment of nearly three million euros. The project has turned one of the city's most emblematic public spaces into a greener and more accessible climate refuge, also improving its connection with the Municipal Market.
One of the most notable elements of the renovation is the replica of La Panderola, the historic train that now presides over the main fountain, recalling the importance of this mode of transport in Onda's economic and social development. Local ceramics also take center stage with coverings on the fountain, planters, and urban elements, as well as large-format ceramic tomatoes crafted by ceramist Joana Segura, as a tribute to local produce.
The square now features more greenery, new shaded areas thanks to a pergola with a cooling system, children's play areas, and seating spaces. The project has eliminated architectural barriers, improving accessibility, and has resolved leaks in the underground parking, which now includes an elevator to connect it to the plaza.
The surroundings of the Municipal Market have also been renovated with new sidewalks and pavements, and two large ceramic murals inspired by marine life and still lifes, created by users of the El Molí Occupational Center, have been incorporated. During the works, the City Council provided aid to affected businesses and hospitality establishments.
The renovation is part of the Plan Onda RecONecta, co-financed with European Next Generation EU funds, aiming to sustainably transform the city. Mayoress Carmina Ballester highlighted the recovery of a historic space adapted to current needs and thanked the citizens' collaboration during the months of construction.
