The Councilor for Sports, Maica Hurtado, will accept the distinction on behalf of the City Council during a gala to be held in Madrid. Castelló's Municipal Olympic Pool, a regular venue for competitions of various levels, has been instrumental in this recognition. Since 2023, its facilities have hosted ten national and five international championships, ranking among the top five in Spain for organizing aquatic events.
"This award is an immense source of pride for our city and acknowledges our constant commitment to improving all municipal sports facilities," stated Hurtado. The councilor highlighted that Castelló is expected to host nearly 200 sporting events this year.
Improvements made to the Olympic Pool include the acquisition of a large screen, renovation of the public address system, and the installation of windows to enhance air circulation and reduce summer temperatures. These upgrades, along with regular maintenance, ensure the facility's excellent condition as it approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027.
According to Hurtado, this award reinforces the municipality's dedication to sports and Castelló's standing as a competition hub. "Our continuous investment in sporting events reaffirms Castelló as the capital of sport," she affirmed.
At the same gala, the RFEN Aquatics will also honor outstanding athletes in swimming, water polo, diving, and artistic swimming, in addition to presenting awards for sporting merit and inducting new members into its Hall of Fame.
