Nearly 80 people, including students and teachers, participated in the II Regional Meeting of Student Mediators held at IES L’Arabí in L'Alfàs del Pi, an event to exchange experiences in promoting good coexistence.

IES L’Arabí in L'Alfàs del Pi hosted the II Regional Meeting of Student Mediators, bringing together student mediators from three educational centers in the region: IES L’Arabí, IES La Nucía, and IES Rodolfo Llopis in Callosa d’en Sarrià. The event gathered nearly 80 participants, including students and teachers, offering a space for exchanging experiences among young people actively working to foster dialogue, active listening, and peaceful conflict resolution.
One of the central activities, titled ‘Hashtags that leave a mark’, was coordinated by the Department of Cooperation and Volunteering of the L'Alfàs del Pi City Council and facilitated by mediator Raquel Guerrero. This participatory initiative aimed to foster mutual understanding, identify personal qualities linked to mediation, and reinforce shared values.
Additionally, the meeting included other activities prepared by the participating schools: the dynamic ‘Gears’ by students from IES La Nucía and a choreography set to the song ‘Open your eyes, look up’ by students from IES Rodolfo Llopis.
The Councilor for Cooperation and Volunteering, Isabel Muñoz, highlighted the importance of these spaces for recognizing the work of student mediators in conflict prevention and promoting relationships based on respect and empathy. “Educating for coexistence means teaching to listen, understand differences, collaborate, and seek solutions peacefully,” stated Muñoz, emphasizing that these values contribute to building more inclusive schools and societies.
The municipal educational mediation program in L'Alfàs del Pi, initiated in 2010 at IES L’Arabí and later extended to primary schools, aims to improve the classroom climate and facilitate coexistence. This initiative, promoted by the City Council in collaboration with schools and parent associations, relies on the involvement of the entire educational community and, especially, volunteer students who train in skills such as empathy and assertive communication, always maintaining impartiality.
Consolidated as a benchmark project, the program has been expanded to primary and early childhood education and is part of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, particularly contributing to Goal 16 for peaceful and inclusive societies.
