The Mayor of Villajoyosa, Marcos Zaragoza, has announced that the project for the future House of Music is now drafted and that construction could begin in early 2027. This information was revealed during a review of the start of the political year, shared in various interviews.
According to Zaragoza, the project is currently undergoing technical review by the Urban Planning department to finalize technical aspects. Once this review is complete, the tender process for the works can commence. The local government's intention is to lay the first stone in early 2027, as financing is secured through a granted loan.
The initial project includes a three-story building plus a basement on the site of the former Doctor Esquerdo primary school, located on Doctora Damiana Zaragoza street, opposite the Teatre Auditori. The building will offer 2,368.7 m² of usable space and 3,408.9 m² of built area on a 1,209 m² plot, with the potential for two additional floors in the future. The initial budget is set at 5,374,978.95 euros.
Marcos Zaragoza highlighted the new venue's location, in a connection hub near the Teatre Auditori, which will create an open urban space for music and culture. He emphasized the goal of building a space with "common sense" to accommodate students and promote cultural activities, deeming it an "ambitious" project created "by everyone".
Additionally, the Mayor provided updates on other ongoing projects. The bridge over the Amadorio river (Cervantes street) is in its final stages, with completion expected by the Puente de octubre holiday. Zaragoza acknowledged the inconvenience caused to residents during construction but assured that it will improve traffic flow and the urban landscape.
Work will also begin before the end of the year to widen and improve the intersection of Avenida Benidorm and Colón street, with an investment of 320,000 euros, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and pedestrian accessibility. Furthermore, networks for drinking water, sanitation, and public lighting will be renewed.
The council will also invest over 268,000 euros in renovating the sandy promenade in La Cala, on Mestral street, which will include new paving and recycled street furniture. It is expected to be completed before the year's end.
Finally, a new asphalt plan will be implemented with 2 million euros, 1.2 million for streets and 800,000 for rural roads. Three roundabouts will also be improved, and the urban center will be developed in Constitución, Ramón y Cajal, and Colón streets.
The Mayor concluded by inviting the public to the cultural event La Villa Vella, taking place from September 11th to 13th, and reminded that Villajoyosa will host the World Sea Kayak Championship from October 8th to 11th, attracting over 700 paddlers.
