The Villajoyosa City Council's plenary session, held in August, has greenlit a budget modification of 1.2 million euros. The proposal, supported by the municipal government councilors from the PP and Gent per La Vila, with abstentions from PSOE, Compromís, and Vox, aims to incorporate part of the Treasury surplus from the 2025 budget into current investments.
Among the projects to benefit from this credit increase are the improvement of municipal roundabouts' central islands, with an allocation of 150,000 euros. A sum of 100,000 euros will also be dedicated to improving the Salomó-Rancallosa road, along with another 100,000 euros for emergency works on the FGV crossing at Montíboli. Additionally, investments have been planned for various municipal departments.
During the plenary session, information was also provided on the execution of the second quarter of the 2026 municipal budget. Regarding citizen security, a motion from Vox to establish foot patrols for the Local Police was debated and rejected by the government's opposing votes and the abstention of PSOE and Compromís.
The Councilor for Citizen Security, Jaime Santamaría, defended the government's stance, arguing that the force already has proximity patrols covering all neighborhoods, with a particular focus on the historic center. Santamaría highlighted the work of the 74 police officers, who carried out 23,922 actions in 2025, and announced plans to increase the force through new recruitments.
Mayor Marcos Zaragoza concluded the session by emphasizing the need for more resources for the Civil Guard and praised the exemplary work of local officers, despite legal restrictions, reiterating the commitment to improve the Local Police.
