The Mayor of Finestrat, Nati Algado, highlighted that this aid will help alleviate high temperatures and provide thermal comfort in classrooms. This measure complements the local government's own investment of €700,000 to address air conditioning in both schools.
The funding from the Generalitat Valenciana will cover provisional measures, including the purchase and installation of portable air conditioning units, as well as necessary auxiliary work to ensure safe and efficient operation.
This initiative will extend to a total of 1,172 Infant and Primary Education schools, Special Education centers, and Adult Education centers, with a total amount of 16 million euros. An additional 444 centers for secondary education, baccalaureate, vocational training, and artistic, sports, and language studies will also receive funding.
The Conselleria d'Educació (Ministry of Education) has sent instructions to each center on how to utilize this extraordinary funding, establishing technical and administrative criteria for the acquisition and installation of equipment. Works are generally to be completed before October 2026, with a possible extension until March 2027 for electrical installation adaptations. Priority will be given to classrooms with the most significant thermal comfort issues.
