The jury of the contest, held this year in the pasodoble modality, has unanimously decided to award the prize, consisting of 2,000 euros and a trophy, to the work titled 'Aires de Llevant'. This announcement was made by the Department of Culture.
The jury's deliberation, chaired by the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez, with Javier Cidrón Ribes as secretary, and members José Antonio Espinosa Zaragoza, Alfonso Yépez Santamaría, and Trinitat Roldán Bertomeu, highlighted the high quality of the submitted works. Pérez noted the difficulty of the decision due to the overall standard of the compositions.
The name of the composer will be revealed on September 26th, starting at 8 PM, during a concert at the Óscar Esplá auditorium in the Parque de l’Aigüera. The event, performed by the Societat Musical La Nova de Benidorm, will include the opening of the winning envelope.
A total of 16 works were submitted for this edition. The Councilor for Culture expressed his satisfaction with the number of entries, which exceeded previous editions focusing on other styles like the 'marcha mora' or 'marcha cristiana'. He reiterated the quality of the pieces, which presented a challenging task for the jury.
The contest is established as a significant activity in musical composition, having produced works that have been performed in numerous parades and concerts across Spain. According to Pérez, the event aligns with the department's strategic goals to promote the importance of music and foster artistic creativity. It also aims to preserve traditional Valencian music and enrich the repertoire of 'música festera'.
