The Xàbia City Council has opened the tender for the management of municipal sports facilities, a new contract amounting to almost one million euros annually, mainly due to the incorporation of the municipal swimming pool.

The contract, published on the State Contracting Platform, doubles the amount of the previous award (around 400,000 euros) by including the new municipal swimming pool, located next to the Miguel Andrés Buigues Pavilion. In total, the City Council will allocate 995,000 euros (VAT included) annually for the management of all sports facilities: the pavilion, the pool, the football field, the municipal sports center, the trinquet, and the Les Mesquides field, in addition to sports activities in local educational centers.
The main cost of the service is focused on personnel, with a projection of 45,772 annual hours valued at approximately 792,000 euros. Additionally, an extra hour pool for extraordinary events is included, with an approximate cost of 30,000 euros. The planned staff includes 13 sports instructors, 6 for schools, 5 lifeguards for the pool, 8 caretakers, 4 coordinators, 2 customer service employees, and 2 for maintenance.
The tender specifications set the hourly rates for personnel and establish evaluation criteria for the offers. The price accounts for 45 points, the increase in the hour pool for events adds 24 points, the organization project 10 points, the acquisition of a vehicle with an environmental badge 10 points, and an application for service management grants 1 point.
Currently, the service is provided without a formal contract. The last award was made in 2021 to the company Podium Gestión Integral, which had been providing the service since mid-2023. The previous contract was not renewed to include the management of the municipal swimming pool, which finally opened in July 2025 due to detected deficiencies. With the approved 2026 budget, the increased cost of the pool has been incorporated, allowing this tender to proceed.
Additionally, the City Council has recently completed the installation of a photovoltaic plant on the roof of the municipal swimming pool, aiming to reduce the electricity bill by 50%.
