The storms, accompanied by humid downbursts, hit the Marina Alta region mid-afternoon this Thursday, bringing uneven and intermittent rainfall. The curtains of water hampered traffic on main roads such as the Camí de Gandia, between Dénia and Els Poblets, and intense electrical activity and loud thunder were recorded, along with rough seas.
The most notable event was a forest fire on a slope between Llíber and Gata, which may have been caused by lightning. The fire forced the closure of the CV748 road between these two towns. Fortunately, it was quickly brought under control, declared stabilized at 8:30 PM and controlled at 8:44 PM.
The strong winds throughout the afternoon caused trees and branches to fall in towns like Dénia, where speeds exceeded 70 km/h. At the Alt de la Granadella in Xàbia, speeds reached 91 km/h, and in Benitatxell, 89 km/h.
Furthermore, a radical temperature drop occurred. Dénia, which exceeded 35 degrees at midday, registered 20.3 degrees around 7:00 PM. Pego, which recorded the regional high of 43.2 degrees yesterday, barely exceeded 20 degrees by evening today. This thermal decrease was widespread across the region.
The climatological paradox was evident in the low temperatures, which did not occur in the early morning, when many towns remained above 30 degrees, but rather during the evening.
