The National Police has launched the Llevant Segur operation, a deployment by the Aerial Means Unit that collaborates with ground units to monitor the beaches of municipalities such as Dénia (Marina Alta), Benidorm (Marina Baixa), Elche (Baix Vinalopó), and Torrevieja (Baix Segura). The objective is to prevent crimes on the Alicante coast.
The agents from the aerial unit set up the necessary equipment and prepare the drone for flight, remaining alert to what happens on the beach to prevent potential criminal acts. According to Sergio Barrio, deputy inspector of the Aerial Unit, the drone allows them to cover the entire beach searching for suspicious individuals and communicate their characteristics to the ground patrols for intervention.
In addition to preventing robberies, the aerial service is available to ground patrols to act in cases such as locating lost children. "Any incident or problem that arises, we deploy and conduct an initial reconnaissance for our ground colleagues," Barrio points out.
The operation also includes preventing unauthorized flights of other drones, as the unit is equipped with detectors and jammers to bring down potentially dangerous aircraft.
