The heatwave has strongly hit La Marina Alta, with thermometers marking over 40 degrees in locations such as Dénia and Castell de Castells. Up to 13 municipalities in the region have surpassed 39 degrees, confirming the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Meteorological stations in Dénia, on the coast, recorded the highest temperatures: 40.7 degrees in the urban center and 40.6 in the Corral de Calafat area, in Montgó. At the other end of the region, in Castell de Castells, exactly 40 degrees were reached at 5 PM.
Other towns such as El Ràfol d’Almúnia, Orba, and Pedreguer reached 39.9 degrees. In the Vall d’Ebo, 39.8 degrees were recorded, while in Orba and Parcent, 39.5 degrees were reached. Pego, El Verger, Benigembla, La Vall de Gallinera, and Sagra also surpassed 39 degrees.
The suffocating heat caused the streets to remain almost deserted during the central hours of the day. Many residents opted to cool off at the beaches or in air-conditioned indoor spaces.
