The Hospital de Dénia is facing a "major" overcrowding situation in its Emergency Room, according to patient families and labor sources. The lack of available beds on wards has led to treatment bays being completely full, forcing new cases to be attended to in the hospital's hallways.
Patients have had to spend entire nights in these conditions, unable to have companions and facing difficulties accessing basic services like the bathroom. This situation also severely hinders the work of healthcare staff, who must perform their duties under "difficult" circumstances.
This is not the first time the hospital has experienced similar difficulties. As recently as May 2026, doctors denounced a lack of human resources. In January, Compromís warned that an ER bay had been closed for four months. During the previous flu epidemic, collapses occurred with up to 200 patients waiting for a bed, and last year the average stay in the ER was six hours.
Furthermore, the Marina Alta region does not have the new 24-hour Emergency Care Centers that the regional health department planned to promote, due to the area's population distribution. This summer, other hospitals, such as the one in Marina Baixa, have also experienced similar situations, with waits of up to four days for a bed.
