As part of the Diputació de València's drug addiction prevention program for 2026, and in collaboration with the Town Hall of La Llosa de Ranes, fourth-grade primary students from CEIP Crist del Miracle have undertaken a series of educational workshops.
On October 6th, the workshop "Educating Emotions. Emotional Management" took place. In this session, the schoolchildren learned that all emotions are valid and useful, serving a protective or adaptive function. It was explained that "negative" emotions, such as fear, sadness, anger, or disgust, are necessary for protection, reflection, defending rights, and safeguarding against toxic situations. On the other hand, "positive" emotions, like joy, help in repeating healthy actions, celebrating, and strengthening social bonds.
The main conclusion from the workshop is that the goal is not to suppress feelings, but to learn how to manage reactions to them. To achieve this, techniques such as breathing exercises, visualizing calming elements, using objects like stress balls or sand timers for tension-release, and engaging in activities like painting, walking, drawing, or running were introduced.
Subsequently, on October 13th, the workshop "The Emotion Gym" was held, complementing the previous one. In this relational session, students named emotions and acted them out. They demonstrated a good ability to identify the intensity of each emotion, a key aspect for knowing when to pause and manage it appropriately. The ultimate aim is to continue exploring the world of emotions and the strategies for managing them.
