The Fundación Alimerka has recognized the work of the Innobiome group, part of the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC), with the XVII Luis Noé Fernández Award in the Nutrition category. The jury highlighted its contribution to advancing knowledge on the interaction between the microbiome, nutrition, and health.
The research, led by investigator Yolanda Sanz, focuses on understanding how diet affects the composition and activity of the gut microbiome and its relationship with health. The results open new avenues for preventive nutritional strategies against various diseases.
“"I am very grateful for this award, both on my behalf and on behalf of my entire team. It is also a recognition of our research area and all that it represents in the scientific trajectory we have developed."
The Luis Noé Fernández Awards honor the memory of the founder of Grupo Alimerka and recognize initiatives that improve nutrition in research, food assistance to vulnerable groups, and the fight against hunger and malnutrition in developing countries.
In the Nutrition category, institutes, centers, research groups, and non-profit organizations with scientific projects or interventions related to nutrition, health, and food science and technology are distinguished. Criteria include trajectory, scientific production, knowledge transfer, and public outreach actions.
The award highlights the contribution of IATA-CSIC research to a field of growing interest, aiming to improve quality of life through new nutritional strategies.
