The Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de València (IIAMA-UPV) has welcomed a Japanese delegation from Wakayama. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the Valencian fruit-growing ecosystem and the center's work in water management, irrigation, and climate resilience.
The delegation comprised institutional representatives from the Government of Wakayama, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and kaki producers from this region. The meeting is part of a prospecting visit focused on production and harvest technologies, as well as innovation associated with the Valencian fruit sector.
Alberto García-Prats, deputy director of IIAMA, and Manuel Pulido-Velázquez, head of the Hydroeconomic Models group, were responsible for attending the delegation. After a brief presentation of IIAMA and its main research lines, they introduced the water management tools for agriculture developed by the institute, with a special emphasis on Water4Cast.
During the session, work related to irrigation and climate resilience was also presented, areas linked to the challenges of agricultural production and water resource availability.
The visit facilitated the exchange of knowledge with Japanese institutional representatives and producers, as well as introducing them to the contribution of IIAMA's research to water management in the agricultural sector.
