The head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Valencia's General Hospital, Juan Gilabert Estellés, has been recognized in the Best Doctors in Spain 2026 awards, organized by El Confidencial.

The head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service and the Reproductive Medicine Unit at the General Hospital of Valencia, Juan Gilabert Estellés, has been distinguished in the Best Doctors in Spain 2026 Awards, organized by the newspaper El Confidencial. These awards recognize professionals from 34 medical specialties, selected by a committee and voted on by professionals in each specialty.
Gilabert emphasized that the distinction is a "prize for the work of teams rather than individual work," thanking the dedication of the medical staff, nursing personnel, and auxiliary staff of his service and the Reproductive Medicine Unit. He highlighted that they are a reference unit in Abdominopelvic Oncological Surgery and Deep Endometriosis Surgery.
In the field of research, he highlighted the work of the Biomarkers of Reproduction and Gynecology laboratory at the hospital's Research Foundation, which is working on cutting-edge innovation lines. Projects on ovarian cancer have been secured with funding from the Carlos III Institute and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), as well as a Miguel Servet contract for research excellence.
He also thanked the support in transfer and dissemination from the Chair of Robotic Surgery at the University of Valencia, with which the Urology, General Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery services of the General Hospital collaborate, along with the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC). This collaboration has enabled the development of innovation projects with national and European funding, and the obtaining of patents.
Regarding training, Gilabert underscored the activity of the European School of Gynecological Endoscopy (EGES Valencia), located at the hospital, which trains residents and specialists. Two degrees from the University of Valencia are offered: the Master's in Robotic Surgery and the Master's in Minimally Invasive Techniques in Gynecology and Reproduction. Gilabert also serves as a professor at the same university.
This award, according to Gilabert, "shows us that the Gynecology in our hospital is at the highest national level and represents an important incentive to continue working."
