This will be the most spectacular eclipse of the 21st century in Europe, and Valencia has positioned itself as one of the best places for observation. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon aligns exactly between the Earth and the Sun, completely obscuring the star. In Valencia, the eclipse will begin at 19:38, with totality lasting approximately one minute between 20:32 and 20:33, a period during which ambient light will decrease, the temperature will drop slightly, and twilight sounds of birds and insects may be heard.
To best enjoy the spectacle, it is recommended to find an elevated spot with a clear western horizon, as the Sun will be low. Malvarrosa Beach, between Séquia de la Cadena street and Cabanyal post number 3, will be the official observation point in the city, with parking areas and accessible routes. Devesa forest will remain closed, and the CV 500 road will be closed to traffic from 18:00, except for public transport and accredited residents. Other official viewing points in the province include Puzol beach and Pico del Remedio in Utiel.
It is crucial to follow safety recommendations for viewing the eclipse. Never look directly at the Sun without adequate protection, as it can be very harmful to the eyes. Certified eclipse glasses with an ISO 12312-2 filter must be used, ensuring they are in perfect condition. For cameras, mobile phones, binoculars, or telescopes, specific solar filters must be added. It is advisable to consult the safety guides available on the Visit València and City Council websites.
Using public transport is the best option to reach the observation points. EMT will reinforce the bus lines serving Malvarrosa (18, 19, 31, 32, 92, 93, 95, 98, and 99), as well as line 25 (to Pinedo, El Saler, and El Perelló) and line 24 (to El Palmar), both in the days leading up to and on August 12.
