Schoolchildren in Valencia will have a holiday throughout Fallas week, from March 15 to 18. This proposal, agreed upon by the Municipal School Council and awaiting approval from the Directorate General of Educational Centers, also includes the December long weekend, with December 7 as a holiday. To compensate, December 22 and 23 will be academic days, as established by DECREE 96/2026.
With this new calendar, Valencia's educational community can enjoy the Fallas week, which will link with Saint Joseph's Day (March 19), an autonomous holiday. This measure avoids previous controversies and allows students, especially those belonging to Fallas committees, to participate fully in all events without issues.
The proposal will allow schoolchildren to finish classes on Friday, March 12, and not return until Monday, March 22. This amounts to a full week of Fallas festivities, offering the opportunity to participate in events or find alternatives for those who are not involved in Fallas.
This calendar is a prerequisite for the Central Fallas Board (JCF) to propose an additional Offering session on March 16, aiming to decongest schedules. The JCF can present this option at an extraordinary assembly, once the school holiday is secured.
The agreement was made possible thanks to the support of parent associations, teachers, neighborhood entities, and center directors who are part of the Municipal School Council. Representatives from the Interagrupación de Fallas and the Cofradía de la Cárcel de San Vicente Mártir have thanked the consensus and dialogue.
According to Resolution of June 15, 2026, the 2026-2027 academic year in the Valencian Community will begin on Monday, September 9, 2026, and end on Friday, June 18, 2027.
