Valencia Firefighters will deploy a special fire prevention and rescue surveillance operation on the city's beaches and in l'Albufera during the total solar eclipse scheduled for August 12th. This measure responds to the anticipated concentration of people in these areas to observe the astronomical event.
The Councilor for Firefighters and Civil Protection, Juan Carlos Caballero, explained that a special aquatic rescue operation has been designed, including a surveillance and rescue boat on the North beaches and another on the South. Additionally, a third boat will operate in l'Albufera, in collaboration with the Devesa-Albufera Department, to ensure safety while respecting the ecosystem.
Valencia Firefighters will also be part of the general eclipse operation, with a presence at the Official Observation Point, the Preventive Command Post, and the CECOPAL and CECOPI. The councilor emphasized the commitment to ensuring residents can safely enjoy this historic moment and urged citizens to use public transport for their travel.
Concurrently, the fire prevention operation in the Devesa natural park remains active, with the deployment of water diffusion cannons. The Generalitat has declared level 3 pre-emergency (maximum risk) of the Forest Fire Risk Special Plan (Previfoc) for August 12th, meaning access to the Devesa del Saler forest will be closed, except for access to apartments, beaches, and restaurants until 6:00 PM.
The operation will include enhanced surveillance in coastal areas and the Devesa with the drone unit. The councilor appealed to public responsibility to prevent risky situations during the day.
Finally, the importance of using certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2:2015 standard) for observing the eclipse is reminded, as homemade methods or conventional sunglasses do not offer adequate protection. Cameras and telescopes will also require certified solar filters.
