The Type 1 Pollution protocol was activated in València this Sunday, recommending the restriction of certain daily activities. This measure is due to the accumulation of smoke from the forest fire declared in Vall d'Uixó, which began on Saturday and remains uncontrolled. Additionally, the city has been affected by Saharan dust particles carried by the wind.
Particle monitors have detected an excess of components, marked in orange, despite the sky appearing blue and clear. The protocol includes recommendations such as using public transport, carpooling, and avoiding sudden accelerations while driving, especially on a day with high mobility towards the beaches.
The fire in Vall d'Uixó keeps over 450 personnel working in a complicated situation, with 20 aerial resources to be incorporated. Sixteen municipalities and neighborhoods have been evacuated, affecting more than 15,000 people, who will not be able to return home until the fire's evolution permits. The municipalities of Betxí and La Vall d’Uixó are under confinement. More than 560 people are being attended to in evacuation centers.
There is a request to minimize energy consumption and use air conditioning responsibly. It is also recommended to avoid outdoor exercise, especially for children, those over 65, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory problems. Furthermore, burning stubble is discouraged to avoid increasing pollution and the risk of fires.
